Writing research articles can be difficult. Students can spend hours trying to figure out how to format their article, cite sources and choose the right writing style. Typically, teachers and teachers assign certain style guidelines. Two common style guides are presented by the Association of Modern Languages (MLA) and the style of the American Psychological Association (APA). The differences between the MLA style and the APA are evident, since they have different formats, dating systems and approaches in writing.
MLA writing style
Researchers in the field of humanities use the MLA style to write their works. This style lends itself to research in the field of humanities because of its structure. These are built around a thesis that the author demonstrates throughout the document. Research papers that require the MLA style are less dependent on graphics and images than are done with the APA style. However, a paper written in MLA style is based on concrete and proven facts, as well as on verifiable statistics that it requires to support its thesis.
APA writing style
The Psychology Association in the United States designed its own style guide for the research works of writers in the fields of social sciences. APA-style research papers usually present results from experiments or studies. This allows you to clearly express statistics and data. Usually, with the APA style the works include graphics and images to better illustrate the information being processed.
Certain aspects are common in both styles, APA and MLA. Both require the use of 8.5 x 11 inch (21.59 by 27.94 cm) sheets of one-inch (2.54 cm) margins on all sides and the contents must be double-spaced . However, the similarities end there. Typically, MLA-style jobs do not require a page with the title. An MLA document should contain the author’s last name and the number of pages in the corner at the top right.
Papers in APA style should have a title page that includes the title in the upper left and the number of pages in the upper right corner. The title should be centered in the middle of the page, along with the author’s name and institutional affiliation. In addition, work in APA style usually includes a summary that provides a brief description of the article. Each page of the APA-style document has the job title and page number in the upper right corner.
The appointments in the MLA style
Papers that are written using either the APA style or the MLA have quotes in parentheses in the body of the work. The difference is its formulation. A MLA style work uses the author’s last name and the page number. A bibliography appears at the end both APA and MLA formats. As far as the MLA style is concerned, the sources should be ordered alphabetically according to the author’s last name. After the surname of the author, you must follow the title, the name of the publication, the date and the edition.
Appointments in the APA style
APA-style citations use parentheses to enclose the author’s last name and the year the source was published. If there is more than one writer who collaborated in the elaboration of the source, all the names of the authors will be mentioned the first time the font is used in the text. However, only the surname of the first author of the group will be used when that source is subsequently mentioned. In the APA style, a list of bibliographic sources must be drawn up in alphabetical order, followed by the year of publication, title, editorial and pages.
